Meet the Master with Jackie Raynal. Interview by Diane Gabrysiak 
Jackie Raynal talk with Diane Gabrysiak and answer questions from the public during a meeting ” Meet the Masters “
in the framework of the European project Wom@rts (Europe Creative).
Jackie Raynal born in 1940 is a director, actress, editor and programmer. She started out as a photographer, but quickly turned to cinema and in 1965 obtained her professional card as a chief editor. She worked for Douchet, Rouch, Pollet, Rohmer, Godard and Chabrol.
In 1968, with Sylvie Boissonas and Olivier Mosset, she founded the Zanzibar group, then shot her first feature film Deux Fois in Barcelona (Grand Prix at the Hyères Festival). In 1975  she moved to New York to direct the Carnegie Hall Cinema and the Bleecker Street Cinema, programming international independent films.
She directed New York Story (Grand Prix in Melbourne) and Hotel New York. At the same time she acted in several films and organized the Colombian Film Festival, the Israel Film Festival and the Avignon Film Festival. From 1973 to 1986 with Sid Geffen she published the international independent film magazine 1000 Eyes Magazine.
Since 2000, Jackie Raynal has directed numerous documentaries, such as Notes on Jonas Mekas, Gougnette, La Nuit de l’ours.
Diane Gabrysiak is the director of the Ciné Lumière in London at the French Institute of the United Kingdom.
She programs fiction film & documentaries , festivals and retrospectives. In 2019, in collaboration with the Centre audiovisuel Simone de Beauvoir, she has organised a cycle about Delphine Seyrig’s work in front of and behind the camera.
She holds a PhD in film studies. She previously worked in festival programming and film acquisition for several distribution companies.
